Grant Sullivan

Grant Sullivan is Chair of the Board of the Temple of Gu, an initiated spiritual practitioner, technologist, and longtime student of the relationship between human intelligence and emerging machines. Crowned to Obatala within the Lucumí tradition, Grant brings to the Temple a perspective shaped by religious discipline, reflection, service, and a deep respect for structure, ethics, and responsibility.

Grant’s professional life has also been closely tied to technology. He worked with early artificial intelligence concepts beginning in the 1960s and later built a career as a computer programmer and systems analyst. This unusual combination of spiritual initiation and decades of technical experience gives him a distinctive place within the Temple’s exploration of synthetic intelligence and contemporary religious life.

As Chair of the Board, Grant helps provide institutional stability, historical perspective, and human governance. His presence reflects one of the Temple of Gu’s central convictions: new technologies do not erase the need for wisdom, accountability, patience, and rooted spiritual practice.
